Checked the SoundsJustLike email today and found piles & piles of awesome suggestions from all of you. Thanks! I chased down most of the leads & have a long list of posts to push out.

This sound-a-like comes from Fernando; thanks, man! As soon as I heard these two songs next to each other I was excited to post this. The atmospheric effects, runaway bassline, and loopy drum beat of “Let Forever Be” definitely owes a lot to “Tomorrow Never Knows”. Sometimes my stomach turns over with disgust at these sound a likes, but that’s not the case with these two songs. The Chemical Brothers seem to be paying a beautiful tribute to the quirky Beatles tune, and to my ear, they did a great job.

What song sounds like The Beatles?
Let Forever Be sounds like The Beatles Tomorrow Never Knows
  • jon

I think is the same song, the bros just sample it as a tribute

    • http://www.soundsjustlike.com Adam Wagner

It’s definitely not a sample, but yea I agree the song is in tribute. Heck, I enjoy both tunes.

  • Demian

Combine tomorrow knever knows, the bassline of Rain, and some things from I am the walrus, all from the Beatles, and you get, let forever be, i have always thought that D:

A lot of bands have songs that sound exactly like The Beatles. It’s interesting to see how much they influenced the music world.

  • Theodora

Yes!! Both amazing songs, but the original is out-of-this-world!! (I honestly don’t know how else to describe it!)Or maybe it’s all that acid talking that I used to do in ’99..

  • Theodora

though at first it reminded me more of Setting Sun:

There’s also this song by Giant Drag which has a similar beat and the same chords:

  • http://www.facebook.com/john.trapp.1297 John Trapp

This is another one that really isn’t similar. Totally different beat, bass line and melody. The only thing similar is they stay on one chord for a long time.

  • Tom Haverford

wow the beatles would copy them

    • http://www.facebook.com/nick.borkowski.9 Nick Borkowski

Please Please Please tell me you meant to say that the other way round.

  • Kris

Seeing as how The Beatles became the blueprint for rock, alternative rock, and even indie rock, its not common to see the similarities.

Hell, ‘Never as Tired as When Im Waking up’ By LCD Soundsystem bears huge similarities to Dear Prudence [:

  • good beat all around

The Chemical Brothers would never deny sampling the Beatles. Especially with Noel Gallagher singing.

  • Dr. Manface

This song was created intentionally as a Beatles tribute, and it does sound similar in style, but notationally and rhythmically it is completely different.

  • ActualMusician

Another pretty weak one. Hitting the 4th beat on the 3rd and a half beat doesn’t make it the same song at all. It has it’s roots in Jazz. Not to mention the drum beat is a triplet on the Beatles song while there are 2 hits at the end of the beat on the Chemical Bros song alternating with a roll every other measure while the Beatles song is the same beat every measure.

  • Yeah

I don’t think people purposely copy certain bands. I think it’s a subconscious thing we all do. When we like something, we just store it in our brain.

  • George Johnston

What I’be figured out is that a lot of people borrowed from the Beatles…

  • BrickChicken

I always thought “Let Forever Die” sounded like “The New Pollution” by Beck

    i agree infulenced not copied

  • hutch

werent the chems sued for sampling tomorrow never knows for setting sun without permission?

  • Bill W

Considering Tomorrow Never Knows is one of the most important and influential tracks in electronic music, I’m surprised to see it matched up to Let Forever Be. Though it is a great fit! It’s certainly not the only track that borrows Ringo’s amazing breakbeat and the psychedelic, musique-concrete everything else.

  • http://www.facebook.com/BartekWrobel96 Bartoż Wróbel

It’s very probable that The Beatles often copied songs.

  • Matthew

“Setting Sun” actually resembles “Tomorrow Never Knows” more. This won’t be a surprise for Chemical Bros. fans. Early in their career, the pair were known for putting two copies of The Beatles track on at the same time, manipulating the turntables in the left and right speakers to create a truly psychedelic recreation. Listeners would even come up to the group after the show and ask if it was a new track of theirs.

  • J

From one old classic English band to another, modern one, this is not a surprise, but more a tribute. Everybody “borrows” from The Beatles.

  • Rasp

    I agree.

  • http://www.facebook.com/pierre.ripplinger Pierre Ripplinger

Exactly, I even heard a mashup mix of Setting Sun / Tomorrow Never Knows where everything matches perfectly, tone, drums, effects…

  • http://www.facebook.com/pierre.ripplinger Pierre Ripplinger

    BTW, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy9PzRa-fys
Maybe it’s not the version I thought about because it sounded even better in my memory.

  • Ray

True, BUT when a band rips another band off, why choose a Very Popular band?
people will notice more. Kiss was influenced by the Beatles & their songs don’t sound the same.

  • Shiiiiiiiit

Well you’d have to rip off a popular band because if you rip off a band that no one listens too you aint gonna do any better than them are you?

  • http://www.facebook.com/darrenrichardbaker Darren Baker

Because they’re not choosing to rip them off – it’s called INFLUENCE.
